How to generate leads for a web design agency
· 8 min read
An agency differs from a freelancer in one way that matters for lead generation: you have to keep several people busy, so the pipeline cannot depend on your personal network.
Pick a niche you can name in one sentence
'Websites for dental clinics in West Bengal' is a business. 'Web design and digital solutions' is a description of an industry. The narrower version makes every later step cheaper: one set of samples, one price sheet, one set of objections, and word of mouth inside a community that talks to itself.
Build two outbound lanes
- Lane one — businesses with no website: fast, high volume, smaller projects. Great for keeping junior capacity busy.
- Lane two — businesses with a dated site: slower, fewer, larger. Worth a personalised audit rather than a template message.
Make the first contact do one job
The job is a reply, not a sale. One sentence of observation, one image, one question. Save your process, team and pricing for the call.
Add inbound in parallel
Publish one page per niche and one per city you serve, plus a genuine case study for every project you finish. Over a year this becomes the cheapest source of qualified enquiries you have, and it makes outbound convert better because prospects who search your name find substance.
Measure four numbers only
- Contacts made per week.
- Reply rate per category.
- Calls booked per 100 contacts.
- Projects closed per 10 calls.
Tooling
Keep it thin. A lead finder to build lists, a place that records who was contacted and when, and a document with your pitch and prices. Zertex covers the first two for Indian local markets; anything more elaborate tends to be maintained instead of used.
