Web development leads that are worth your time
A lead is only useful if the person has a need, a budget and a reason to act now. Judged that way, most "lead lists" sold to developers are just contact lists. Here is how to tell the difference and where the good ones come from.
Four sources, ranked by effort to first reply
- Local businesses with no website. Visible demand, obvious gap, decision maker answers the phone. Fastest path to a first paid project.
- Businesses with a broken or very outdated site. Slower to convince, usually a bigger budget once convinced.
- Referrals from past clients and other freelancers. Highest close rate, but you cannot control the volume.
- Inbound from your own content and portfolio. Best margins, longest ramp.
Qualifying a lead in two minutes
- Do they already get customers? A rated Maps listing is proof.
- Would a website change their revenue — bookings, orders, enquiries, prices?
- Can you reach the owner directly rather than a receptionist?
- Is the category one where you can show a comparable site you built?
Turning leads into a pipeline
Volume without tracking becomes noise. Keep one list with a contacted date and outcome per prospect. Zertex does this automatically: each lead you call or WhatsApp is stamped and moved into a contacted view, so your next session starts where you stopped.
